A bal is a popular form of dance a bit like a ceilidh. For a bal there is no caller as the dances are all very easy. It is loosely based on traditional French couple dances and includes waltz, schottische, bourrée, and mazurka. There are also other dances where no partner is needed, such as chapeloise and cercle circassien. Our workshop will help you make the most of the bal so that you can really enjoy the rest of the dance.
Bal dances are becoming increasingly popular. Eurobal Wessex is holding a series of bals starting on the 10th February. London Balfolk hold regular dances as do Oxfolk.
